That's essentially what I was getting at. The choices they made were questionable, but had justifications for why they made them as opposed to feeling like the plot simply demanded it. Like I said, what Vegeta did was reckless, but also made sense within his character. Same with Krillin. Edited by GreatSaiyanman, Jul 4 2016, 03:38 AM.

Krillin's usually the one to stay out of a situation and resolve it as quickly as possible. This case, he was thinking with his dick. |

He's also been shown to desperately want a girlfriend as way back as Dragon Ball. The whole reason he got into fighting in the first place was to attract girls. And as far as we know, 18 kissing Krillin is the first time a girl has ever shown that kind of interest in him. It's pretty obvious why he would hesitate to shut her down. |

I think the story lines went down hill from Trunks beating Frieza to be honest, I did like that and initial part of the Androids saga when Dr Gero and Android 19 arrive on the scene, it was a good opportunity to take Goku down with his heart disease allowing Vegeta to step into the spotlight and finally become a Super Saiyan, the whole scene is fantastic from Vegeta telling Android 19 he'll finish off Goku, nobody else and then the transformation is brilliant, I like it when Dr Gero worriedly states "not him as well!". Anyway, moving on, I think they could have done so much more with it, I think the whole thing got weak from Android 17 and 18 appearing, it was boring how easily they beat the Z Fighters and the filler stuff between that and Cell fighting Vegeta in his semi-perfect form was far too long winded and not the most exciting thing in DBZ to watch, there was definitely good parts to it, but too much of it seemed like bad writing and long winded. I'd have liked to see Dr Gero fight alongside the androids against the Z Fighters, with Vegeta in his Super Saiyan form being enough to defeat them, maybe with the help of Piccolo and Trunks, but upon defeating them have Dr Gero utter in his last words about how (Perfect) Cell had come back fron the future (but didn't know his location) and how he'd find them and want to test his perfect form against them, ultimately aiming to kill them off and destroy the planet, similar to Raditz's warning about Vegeta and Nappa, then we could have seen the Z-Fighters preparing for Cell by using the hyperbolic time chamber to train, as well as warning Goku and Gohan about the upcoming threat so they could also train, that's when they could have used the hyperbolic time chamber to have Goku, Vegeta and Trunks ascend and Gohan reach SSJ2. I don't have too many issues with how they defeated Cell, the main annoyance for me is killing off Goku, it seemed a little bit pointless at that point so I'd change that, but mostly it's the lull between the Androids defeating the Z Fighters and Cell becoming a serious threat that I find tedious to watch. I don't think DBZ went down hill from the Android/Cell Arc. I personally consider the Android/Cell Arc to be the peak of the entire Dragon Ball Franchise. IMO, the Dragon Ball Franchise started to go downhill from the start of the Buu Arc. Anyways, that's an whole different thing again. One of the key things which I like about the Android/Cell Arc is that they distributed the screen time for almost all the the Characters evenly. It's true that Yamacha was screwed over in this arc and I wish Toriyama had written Yamacha more properly in this arc. And he kinda does that but much later in the Buu arc. But, other than that I liked how Krillin was given a possible romantic relationship. Tien also got his moment. It might not seem much for the Tien fans but considering how the series progressed, they portrayed Tien correctly and realistically. Overall, the arc was good in developing many of it's characters like Krillin, Vegeta, Trunks, Goku and Gohan. It was also good to see Goku transition from a soldier/warrior that he was in the Saiyan/Namek arc to a more General/Commander like figure by the end of this arc.

I had forgotten about that in all honesty, so if you don't mind me asking, why was that the case? Why did they plan to kill him off considering he's always been the main DB character? They must have known they'd receive a backlash over that. Edited by SaiyanBicko, Jul 8 2016, 07:52 AM.

Well the whole series was supposed to end at the Cell Saga, leaving it off with a passing on the torch feel. With Goku, Gohan took on the mantle of the protector of Earth and the strongest. Obviously once the Buu Saga came into the picture, Toriyama's like "You know what, let's forget all those nice scenes of Goku's final farewell and reuniting and leaving his new son for the last time and just bring him back into the picture." Of course the real reason is Toriyama felt Gohan wasn't suitable as a main character, so he brought Goku back. |

I think the Android-Cell arc was actually magnificent. I agree that the humans were much less important, but when you have a bunch of super saiyans, a super namek, and villains who are even stronger than that, there isn't much they can do. As for Vegeta marrying Bulma, it was probably just for plot, so Trunks could be born. If you're looking for an in universe explanation, then Bulma is the type of girl who likes bad dudes, for an example she liked Yamcha who was a desert bandit, she thought Zarbon was hot, so it makes sense that she would like Vegeta. Also, her and Yamcha were never really loyal with each other, Bulma would crush on other dudes and Yamcha would take other girls out. |
